5 DECEMBER 2014

Rome - Bellissima At The MAXXI museum

Event

From December 2, 2014 to May 3 2015 an excellent season full of Italian creativity. The long-awaited retrospective is curated by Maria Luisa Frisa, Stefano Tonchi and Anna Mattirolo.
The exhibition is exclusively devoted to the Italian high fashion of 1945-1968, where visitors can get the picture and have a feeling over 20 years of the Italian creativity starting from the end of the Second World War up to the '70s.
MAXXI becomes the host of an exhibition that recreates the styles of a period considered as one of the most fervent and productive seasons of our recent history; a season that made an exceptional contribution to the definition of the Italian identity on an international scale and marked the emergence of one of the most important business models which linked to Fashion Made In Italy - that still characterizes Italy internationally.
A journey that unfolds between the creations of the most famous couturiers of the time -to name a few- the Fontana sisters, Germana Marucelli, Roberto Capucci, Mila Schön, Renato Balestra, Fernanda Gattinoni and Valentino, and the works of artists such as Lucio Fontana and Carla Accardi, the shots of Ugo Mulas and Federico Garolla, the accessories of Salvatore Ferragamo and Gucci and the jewels of Bulgari.
“Bellissima” features a selection of 80 high-fashion dresses, marking their respective peculiarities: from full dresses to elegant afternoon clothes; from the rigorousness of black and white to the color blossoming on the 60s; from the unique models created for the “Hollywood on the Tiber” divas (Ava Gardner, Anita Ekberg, Ingrid Bergman, Kim Novak, Anna Magnani) to the outcomes emerged from the collaboration between artists and stylists.
A multidisciplinary path that holds no element of nostalgia.
On the contrary it tends to be increasingly critical and alert
about the future.
A reconstruction of a galaxy in which the diverse protagonists take form through iconic clothes, images and films.
